Took a hike out to the Kansas Firefighters Museum in Wichita this afternoon.
The museum is kept in the historic Engine House 6. The friendly Kansas style prevails inside where a retired fire captain takes you around personally. The building includes thousands of objects of interest to firefighter including a massive horse-drawn steam pumper, but the most important part is the memorial ‘Final Call’ in the park. There a bronze firefighter discovers the dented helmet of a lost brother in the rubble. Your eyes and his blank bronze one’s lock at the same level, and behind him is a tribute to fallen firefighters lost in the line of duty in Kansas.
Well worth the hike.
